Business of the Month: Star Kickboxing

Star Kickboxing/Star A.B.C.is a family run club, established and instructed by Paul Haworth along with his father Leigh, who both hold 5th Dan black belts in kickboxing.

Josh has recently spent a lot of time at the club, training for a charity white-collar boxing match, which he won and subsequently raised £850 for Windom Hospice. He particularly enjoyed the atmosphere and would highly recommend men, women and children to go along.

Paul and Leigh's love of martial arts started when Paul attended a local Karate Group at the age of 6. He was a blackbelt by the age of 13. Dad Leigh soon got involved and ended up becoming an instructor.

The bug had well and truly kicked in and that’s when they decided to start their own business, holding kickboxing training classes at Riverview Scout Hut. These classes were very popular, so they soon outgrew the premises and in 2005, moved into their current venue. The family-run club also includes Paul’s daughter Georgia, who does personal training. The friendly atmosphere gives people the opportunity to learn martial arts and achieve high fitness levels.

The club runs a variety of classes for all ages and levels including a ladies only kickboxing class for beginners upwards.

Star Kickboxing has achieved 16 World Titles through students of various ages, who all began with Star as novices, as well as many other regional, national and international titles. However, students do not need to want to compete to enjoy training with them.

The club has has gone from strength to strength and started attracting boxing students. Star Amateur Boxing Club was created in 2017 to focus specifically on their needs. Star A.B.C. is affiliated with the Amateur Boxing Alliance (ABA) and students regularly compete in fights at a regional and national level. Star A.B.C. students also compete in “white-collar” boxing and the Great Britain Boxing Union (GBBU) league. Boxing.
